I think it's funny that I've either read or heard a lot about most of the books on this banned books list.

In grade school, I read 1984, Huck Finn, Brave New World, Bridge to Terabithia, Diary of Anne Frank, Fahrenheit 451, Farewell to Arms, Grapes of Wrath, Great Gatsby, Jabberwocky (good lord), and I think Where the Wild Things Are.

Some people... sheesh. If we ban books that show how racist or whatever we used to be, how the heck are we supposed to learn from it?  Covering it up doesn't make it go away.  This is another example of why I support PARENTING instead of, oh, MAKING EVERYONE ELSE SUFFER cuz your little brat mimics the gun shooting on the show he watches every time you plant him in front of the TV while you paint your nails.

... *snort* The INNAPROPRIATE TOPIC OF DEATH!! :O :O :O  God forbid we expose our kids to DEATH, and from natural causes or something tame like that, too.  Someone being dead isn't that big a deal. Them being dead and BLOODY and MANGLED... now that's bad.  But come on... someone dying in a hospital bed?  It's not that bad!

Radical conservatives really are the bane of my existence.

Wow, that list is awesome. "A Prayer for Owen Meany" is, like, one of my favorite books ever! And HOW can you ban "Moby Dick"?!

BUH at list. I may be a conservative (though not radical), but that is absurd. So say my issues with censorship, anyhow.

It's like that recent flick, The Queen, which had every single use of the word "God" blanked out so as not to offend conservative Christians...which it did anyway because they even blanked ones like "God bless you, Ma'am".

Censorship is ridiculous.

Now, see, why couldn't they have banned 'The Old Man and the Sea?' DDDDX People would definatly appreciate that... really, tho, some people's only job in life is to cause much ado about nothing. TT_TT

We still read most of those here in Canada (I read Brave New World in grade 11). Good'ol x-rated time ;)

WTF they banned "Where The Wild Things Are?" Alright, I admit I own the book and it SCARED me as a child but like... I coped and it doesn't bother me anymore. Children need to be afraid of things so they can learn to conquer their fears!

Same here, I've read at least half of those books and I've heard about most of the others. Because trying to get something banned just makes people want to read it more, idiots. My favorite is how Harry Potter is #7 on the ALA's list of most frequently challenged books. OmG wizards!!!11 they must worship the devil!!!11 even though they celebrate christmas. that means nothing!! pagans!!!oneoneeleventyone. Wow, and the Scary Stories series is number one, lol. I loved those! They scared the crap out of me, but I loved them.

My lit teacher showed us a recent article when we were reading Fahrenheit 451 about a 15-year-old and her father trying to get it banned (during banned books week!) because, among other things, "talk[s] bad about our firemen." Dude, if that's what you got out of this book, YOU should be banned. Of course, the dad never read the book, so he didn't really have a chance to get anything out of it, now did he? The daughter was quoted as saying, "The book had a bunch of very bad language in it... if they can't find a book that uses clean words, they shouldn't have a book at all." ROTF.

Wow, I didn't mean for this comment to be so long. Shit. I have to go to class. Lit class, actually. Ironic.
